Eaton Rapids, Michigan Residents Want to Know "Why My Home?"

Why do raccoons move into people homes? I really wonder about this. I am so tired of dealing with animal problems and would really like them to go away. SO, really, why are they here in the first place? Jodi V.

Good question, Jodi. In the wild, raccoons make dens in trees or anywhere from ground level to 60 feet above ground. In urban and other areas where tree dens are lacking, raccoons choose a wide variety of "cavities" including rock and debris piles, attics, crawl spaces beneath mobile homes, culverts and sewer drains. Raccoons seek den sites most commonly when they are pregnant and needing a place for their young. Breeding occurs first when they are one year old and will continue for years. A mother raccoon, once she has found what she believes is a good den site will return year after year. Wouldn't you? The only way to get a raccoon to leave is a complete removal and exclusion plan put in place by a nuisance wildlife expert. We'll be glad to do that for you.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Eaton Rapids Wild Animal Control News, Stories, Events and Alerts

Eaton Rapids, Michigan has Swallow Problems

Swallow removal is a priority for many Eaton Rapids residents.

My husband and I have been renting a house for about 3 months now. When we first moved in we noticed a mud nest built on top of the outdoor light sensor. Seeing no birds or eggs inside, we washed it down. There is a pair of swallows that persistently built another mud nest on side wall next to the sensor. After many weeks of hosing down the next as they began to build, we gave up. They laid eggs and those birds have flown and gone for a few weeks now. We figured we could take that nest down since the purpose for it has been filled. The same day the pair began building another nest even though they had already laid eggs once. I don't know what to do about them anymore; they leave stains on the wall and their droppings! Jeanne L.

We have swallows living in our chimney. In order to cap the chimney and make necessary repairs, they need to be removed. Elizabeth N.

There is a swallows nest nestled by my front porch. I just received a phone call from my nephew (who lives with me at the moment) telling me the nest is down on the ground and 3 baby birds are huddled in the corner. He sent me pictures of them and they look fully grown. I counted 4 baby birds last night up in the nest and I find it odd that there are only 3 huddled in a corner on the ground. What should we do next? Mary S. br>
